A Comprehensive Guide to AdBlue Reset and Maintenance for Diesel Engines

Introduction: As diesel engines continue to evolve with stricter emissions standards, the use of AdBlue has become essential for reducing harmful pollutants. AdBlue, also known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), plays a crucial role in reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. However, like any other vehicle component, AdBlue requires periodic maintenance, including resetting the warning system. In this blog article, we will explore what AdBlue reset entails, why it is necessary, how to reset AdBlue warnings, and address some common concerns related to AdBlue usage.

What is AdBlue Reset?
AdBlue reset refers to the process of resetting the warning system in vehicles equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. SCR systems utilize AdBlue to convert harmful nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water vapor, reducing environmental impact. The AdBlue reset procedure ensures accurate monitoring and performance of the SCR system.

Why is AdBlue Reset Necessary?
AdBlue reset is necessary to maintain the efficiency and compliance of the SCR system. Over time, the AdBlue system may encounter issues such as incorrect sensor readings or component failure. These problems can trigger false warning messages, impacting the vehicle's performance. Resetting the AdBlue warning system allows for a fresh start, ensuring accurate monitoring and preventing any potential malfunctions.

How to Reset AdBlue Warning?
The process of resetting the AdBlue warning may vary depending on the vehicle's make and model. Generally, it involves accessing the vehicle's onboard computer system or utilizing a diagnostic tool. To reset the AdBlue warning, follow these general steps:

First of all, it is always advisable to contact an expert with the tools and experience required to reset your AdBlue system, alternatively, you can try to do it yourself by following the steps below.

a. Consult the vehicle's owner manual or contact the manufacturer to determine the specific reset procedure for your vehicle.
b. Locate the vehicle's diagnostic port, usually located under the dashboard.
c. Connect a compatible diagnostic tool or scanner to the diagnostic port.
d. Follow the instructions provided by the tool to reset the AdBlue warning system.
e. Once the reset is complete, verify that the warning light has turned off.

Can AdBlue Damage a Diesel Engine?
AdBlue is a non-toxic, water-based solution consisting of urea and demineralized water. When used correctly, AdBlue does not damage diesel engines. In fact, it helps reduce harmful emissions and ensures compliance with environmental regulations. However, using low-quality or contaminated AdBlue can potentially cause issues, as impurities may clog the SCR system components. It is essential to use genuine AdBlue from reputable sources to maintain optimal engine performance.

Can I Use Water Instead of AdBlue?
No, water cannot be used as a substitute for AdBlue. AdBlue is specifically formulated to meet the requirements of SCR systems. It undergoes a precise manufacturing process to ensure the correct concentration of urea, which is crucial for effective emissions reduction. Water lacks the necessary chemical composition and concentration, making it unsuitable for replacing AdBlue. Using water instead of AdBlue can result in SCR system malfunctions and increased emissions.

What Happens if You Mix AdBlue with Diesel?
Mixing AdBlue with diesel fuel is not recommended. AdBlue and diesel fuel have different purposes and compositions. Diesel fuel is used for combustion within the engine, while AdBlue is solely for emissions reduction. If AdBlue is accidentally added to the diesel tank, it will not combust and can potentially clog the fuel system components. Conversely, adding diesel to the AdBlue tank can lead to contamination, affecting the performance of the SCR system. It is crucial to avoid mixing AdBlue with diesel to prevent any complications.

Conclusion:
Maintaining an efficient and compliant diesel engine requires proper AdBlue usage and periodic resetting of the warning system. AdBlue reset ensures accurate monitoring of the SCR system, preventing false warnings and potential malfunctions. Remember, it is crucial to follow the vehicle manufacturer's guidelines for AdBlue reset and usage. By adhering to these practices, you can contribute to cleaner air and a healthier environment while enjoying optimal performance from your diesel engine.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY

Choosing a Good Tuner is as important as choosing a Good Doctor.

You will be presented with a bewildering selection of companies, all claiming to be the best in the industry. Unfortunately the industry has been flooded with “Get Rich Quick” merchants all desperate to take your money from you. In many cases the “Get Rich Quick” operators have invested in “Cloned” counterfeit remapping tools off the internet. They have little “if any” industry knowledge, experience or liability insurance…

Don’t get sucked in by a good story and what appears to be an incredible price. Instead of taking the word of self-acclaimed tuning experts, a search on google will reveal some very interesting, yet disturbing facts about a few “so called” professionals. Unlike some testimonials “Bert for Bognor says we are Brill” our customers are real people. Don’t take our word for it, ask the people that know best “Our Customers”

I went for a remap on my T5 as it had an awful flat spot around 2800 rev's I got great personal service and its like having a new engine in the van smooth power and greater economy.... Adrian McManus

Popped in to see Mike on Friday to have my A4 2.0TDi 170hp remapped. Have to say I was a little pessimistic at first having being told by another firm that remaps on these were a nightmare so was expecting the worst! Thankfully, nothing of the sort, straight in, one error message unknown but Mike worked it out and all done in no time. Straight out for a test run and the drive is very different, certainly mid ranged (where these engines seem to suffer) pulls away nicely and can definitely feel the benefit. Best money I've ever spent on a car in, well, forever! Thanks again Mike

Mark Patterson

Took my Civic Mk VIII 2.2 CDTI to Mike following a recommendation from a friend who's had his last few cars remapped at MPG., professional service and answered any questions I had. Customised remap that gave me a good balance between performance and economy. Mike was happy to let me watch the whole procedure and explained what he was doing. Makes a good brew as well! Would highly recommend, Will definitely bring my future motors here.
