How did VAG comply with strict EU emissions regulations?

VAG created a piece of software that would hide the actual amount of emissions produced by the car while it was being tested.

This allowed VAG Group to get away with producing cars that emitted more emissions than they should have.

When it was discovered that VAG Group had effectively cheated the system, they were charged by the EU to reverse the emissions defeat software patch and bring their cars in line with EU emission standards
